BIOGRAPHY

Suzanne Rodgers is a visual artist based in Chicago. In 2015, Suzanne graduated from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Arts double major in Psychology and Art and a minor in African American Studies.
My work explores the subtle and often imperceptible interplay among nature, memory, time, and space. I paint abstracted landscapes not as representations of a place, but as emotional echoes—fragments of remembered light, shifting horizons, and atmospheric impressions that live somewhere between the real and the imagined.
Nature is both subject and collaborator in my process. I draw inspiration from fleeting moments and translate them into layered, intuitive compositions. Each piece is a meditation on how memory alters perception and how time softens or sharpens our connection to the land.
In the studio, I work slowly, allowing the painting to unfold over time. I often erase, blur, or obscure parts of the surface to mimic the way memories dissolve or transform. Through color, texture, and space, I seek to create a kind of visual poetry—work that invites stillness and contemplation, and offers a quiet place for viewers to wander through their own associations and inner landscapes.
My paintings are not destinations, but thresholds: glimpses into something just beyond reach.
